iPhone Sales Weak In China

Apple's iPhone sales in China are "disappointing," says Morgan Keegan analyst Travis McCourt, in a note picked up at Fortune.

Smartphone sales have "exploded" in China, growing 200% year over year. In the last quarter, Chinese consumers bought 8-10 million smartphones. Of that, 50% were Android. A year prior, no one in China was buying Android phones. Apple and RIM sold fewer than 500,000 phones last quarter in China.

McCourt cautions that we shouldn't write off the iPhone, though. The iPhone 4 just hit China and it has wifi and other features that were missing from the previous version of the phone that was available in China. Read »

Everything Is Exploding Higher Right Now

Crazy, crazy morning.
Right now everything is surging, with the S&P up .75% to 1214, which is a number that's really close to brand new highs. November slump almost completely gone.
Things were already looking pretty good, as the euro jitters disappeared post-Trichet, and then a good October pending home sales number just sent markets into overdrive again.

Check out the wack chart in the euro

How to Choose Life Insurance

How to Choose Life Insurance - wikiHow

Life insurance is a product that almost everyone should own, but many people do not. There are plenty of people who don't even want to think or discuss it because it is associated with death. 3 Steps to choose your life insurance :

Understand why people purchase life insurance coverage.

People do this to protect debts (perhaps a mortgage), family costs or school fees (in the event of a parent passing away), to protect a business (against the loss of a vital partner), or as part of their overall estate planning. Virtually everyone in society with any family, assets or responsibilities needs some life insurance coverage.

Learn the two basic types of insurance: term and permanent.

    • Term insurance is temporary and only lasts for a predetermined predetermined 'term' at the outset. This may be for a short period of time for a specific purpose or potentially twenty or thirty years. If you pass away a few days after coverage has ended, there will be no payout.
    • Permanent insurance will cost more up front, but is intended to last a lifetime ensuring that someone receives a benefit from the policy. There are different types of permanent insurance, whole life, universal life and variable universal life.
Consult a professional advisor.

They are knowledgeable in the different products available, and can help you determine what type of coverage you need for your particular situation. You might want to consider a broker, someone who works with a range of companies, rather than an advisor who deals with just one company. Brokers are independent and have a much broader market perspective.

A Dozen Economic Threats That Should Keep Bulls Up At Night

David Rosenberg say : "If we could sum up the new conventional wisdom about the markets, it would be like this: The economy is recovering decently, and yet there are big looming systemic threats and headline risks ready to torpedo the comeback at any time. In recent days, it's appeared that the headlines are winning out, most notably the European ones.
In his daily note, David Rosenberg clarifies 12 looming issues that could torpedo the recovery.

One of causes is here. "China is overheating and more policy tightening will likely be needed. When government officials begin discussing price controls, you know the situation is serious. The bottom line is that conventional Street research is probably way off in the consensus view that the inflation pickup is confined to food. Wages are rising rapidly beyond productivity gains and a huge credit bubble could well burst sometime within the next 1-2 years. There is dramatic excess capacity — highlighted by the 40%-plus ratio of fixed investment to GDP. So, there is a strong chance that China undergoes a significant, though likely brief, economic adjustment by 2012, which could interrupt, at some point, our secular bullish call on commodities. Just something to consider."

U.S. Stocks Slide As Europe Worries Weigh

By Kate Gibson - NEW YORK (MarketWatch)

U.S. stocks stumbled Monday after a bailout for Ireland failed to ease worries about Europe's debt troubles, denting the euro and bolstering the U.S. dollar.

"Investors are concerned that the Irish budget that will be voted on next week will not be approved by parliament," Marc Chandler, global head of currency strategy at Brown Brothers Harriman, wrote in a note.

Falling under 11,000 for the first time since last Tuesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) was lately off 113.11 points, or 1%, to 10,978.89, with 25 of its 30 components on the retreat. Should the Dow close under 11,000, it would be for the first time Oct. 19.

The S&P 500 Index declined 9.84 points, or 0.8%, to 1,179.56, with telecom and technology the hardest hit among its 10 industry groups. The Nasdaq Composite (RIXF) shed 26.54 points, or 1.1%, to 2,508.02.

Joe Weisenthal | Nov. 26, 2010, 1:00 PM

Alright world, at least it's the weekend.
But first, the scoreboard:
Dow: -91
NASDAQ: -7
S&P 500: -8/30
And now, the top stories:
  • In Europe, the big story is that the crisis is rapidly approaching Spain and Portugal. The core of Europe wants those countries to take action fast, and are waging a war through the press to get Portugal to accept a bailout.
